Dr Siraj-ul-islam medical college

Medical education in Bangladesh is lagging far behind to fulfill the national requirement even in this 21st century. Every year a large number of students willing to build their career in the field of medical science, are unfortunately deprived from the opportunity of getting admitted in the medical colleges of Bangladesh due to inadequate seats. In this context, Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College (Dr.SIMC) is a humble initiative to provide scope for these candidates to study medical science and contribute to the health sector development of Bangladesh.

Aim: The aim of Dr. SIMC is to produce diverse and vibrant medical graduates to provide highly competent doctors to the country.

Objective: To provide appropriate learning environment where medical students will acquire sound theoretical and practical knowledge, to conduct research in the field of medicine and to raise the standard of medical education in the country. An academic calendar is provided to every student to help him/her understand the schedule for the whole year. Every student is also assigned to a particular member of the faculty for guidance regarding individual problems.

The academic building is furnished with the basic and paraclinical departments such as: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine. This building also comprises of dissection room, museum, galleries, lecture halls, class rooms, tutorial rooms as well as supporting experimental laboratories for the students. The departments are spacious with well equipped modern teaching facilities.

The clinical departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopedic Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Radiology & Imaging, Anesthesiology etc. are situated in the hospital building. These include spacious wards, cabins, emergency, ICU, CCU, NICU, PICU and full fledged teaching facilities.

The library is capacious, well furnished with comfortable sitting arrangement, located in the academic building. It has a vast collection of medical textbooks, reference books, monographs, national and international journals of various subjects which provide up to date information to the students and teachers. The library is also equipped with computers with internet facility. It has user friendly access system. The library is provided with separate reading areas for students and teachers. It remains open from 8:00am to 8:00pm on all working days and is closed only on Fridays and national holidays.

Teaching is imparted through lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, practical classes, institutional visits, guided study tour and surveys on health problems. Teaching aids such as overhead projectors, slide projectors, multimedia projectors, laser pointers and television with various video cassettes, computers with teaching CD ROMs are used in the teaching of students.
