China is a populous nation in East Asia whose vast landscape encompasses grassland, desert,
mountains, lakes, rivers and more than 14,000km of coastline. China has a population of
around 1.404 billion, covering approximately 9,600,000 square kilometers (3,700,000 sq mi),
it is the third- or fourth-largest country by total area. Capital Beijing mixes modern
architecture with historic sites such as the Forbidden City palace complex and Tiananmen
Square. Shanghai is a skyscraper-studded global financial center. The iconic Great Wall of
China runs east-west across the country's north governed by the Communist Party of China,
the state exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces, five autonomous regions, four
direct-controlled municipalities and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and
Macau. It also claims all of the territories of the Republic of China as part of its
"China".
The Chinese climate varies from region to region since the country is massive! In the
northeast the summers are hot and dry and the winters are freezing cold. The north and
central regions have frequent bouts of rain coupled with hot summers and cold winters.
